Product vision: Transforming your vision to a roadmap and offer

In the previous blog post, we learned how to define your product vision by breaking it down into three horizons. Now that you have a clear vision, it's time to turn it into concrete plans. In this final part of our blog series, we'll walk you through the process of creating your product roadmap and defining your product offering. These steps are crucial for aligning your team, prioritizing work, and bringing your vision to life.

Defining your product roadmap

To translate your organization's wants (i.e. vision) into priorities for your product team, you can use a technique called "User Story Mapping". Based on your vision and offering, and having a clear understanding of your target customers, identify the features needed to deliver the desired customer experience. Break down each feature into small stories and, with an overview of all features and stories, start planning the releases that will bring your vision to life.

Creating your product offer

Your product offering encompasses everything that surrounds your solution and puts it in the hands of your customers. Consider the following aspects:

  • Identify your target customers and develop strategies to reach them effectively.
  • Define your value proposition, addressing the problems and benefits that your solution brings.
  • Establish a solid business model that describes how you deliver and capture value from your customers.
  • Trace the buyer's journey, from strangers becoming prospects to presenting and developing your solution.

Next steps

With a clear product vision, a well-defined roadmap, and a compelling product offering, you can confidently guide your team toward achieving your goals. These concrete plans ensure everyone is aligned, eliminating guesswork and prioritization issues. Remember, to move forward quickly requires clarity, autonomy and Agile ways of working. By slowing down, setting your vision, and following these frameworks, you can accelerate your product success and stay ahead in today's rapidly changing business landscape.
