SLACK won the heart and mind of PALO IT
The instant messaging app Slack has won the hearts and minds of a growing number of corporate teams since launching in February 2014.
PALO IT is one of them.
Slack is exploding
Founded by Flickr cofounder Stewart Butterfield, 42, Slack is only 21 months old and its momentum shows no sign of stopping:
- More than 1.7 million people have become daily users of the service since it was first released in February 2014.
- Slack’s users, on average, spend 10 hours each weekday plugged into the application.
- Slack is seen as one of the darlings of Silicon Valley’s tech scene and is now a “unicorn” – a start-up valued at over $1 billion.
Slack is changing work
Download the apps
Slack is available through desktop browsers, but apps will give it a better experience all around. You can download Slack apps for mobile and desktop via slack.com/downloads. Here are the supported platforms :
- Mobile : iOS, Android, Windows Phone (beta);
- Desktop : Mac OS X 10.8 and later, Windows, Linux (beta).
Channel your conversations and share your files
Slack brings all communication together in one place. With this API, you can create public or private chat rooms (channels may be useful for a project, a team, a topic or anything) with the option of one-to-one messaging as well. There are several easy ways to upload a file (image or anything) from your computer and share it with your team members : you can drag and drop it, copy and paste it or use the upload button.
Note : the size limit for uploading a file is 1GB.
Slack integrates some of the tools you probably use everyday : Dropbox, GitHub, Google Drive, Jira, Trello and so one… there are more than 80 integrated services ! This way, you can avoid all that constant switching between apps.
Slack is “free to use for as long as you want, and with an unlimited number of people”. You can choose between 3 plans, from 0 to 15$ per user per month (an Enterprise option is expected to launch in early 2016). You can definitely use Slack for free, but note that you will only be able to browse and search your team’s 10,000 most recent messages, and you will be limited to 5GB of file storage and 10 integrations.

It is a team collaboration tool : we feel free to share information about our projects, our corporate life and funny moments. But it is also a very usefull tool in our recruitment process in France and Asia. We share our feedback as well as candidates follow-ups” Mélanie explains, Talent Acquisition Manager at PALO IT.
